DECEMBER ALREADY

Watching surfers on a beach near Newcastle, NSW

Where has this year gone? I can't believe we are getting close to the end of 2009. We had hoped to be living in Australia by now, but we haven't been able to sell our house. It has been on the market since February this year, unfortunately we have picked the worse time of all to sell due to the credit crunch. And to make matters worse the value of the pound has dropped dramatically against the Australian dollar which of course reduces greatly the amount of money we would have once we get there. It just seems that at the moment nothing is going our way and it is very disappointing. We are keeping our fingers crossed that things start to pick up next year and we can start our new life in Oz.

Keep your chin up, I am sure things will get better for you soon. Canada has just officially come out of the recession and our economy showed growth this past quarter for the first time since mid year 2008. So hopefully the UK will follow and you can sell your house!

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having trouble selling your home in the UK. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hopefully things will pick up in the New Year.

I know how hard it can be with shifting exchange rates - I probably picked the worst possible time to travel - about 12 months ago. The Australian dollar slipped about 30c to the US! Now I'm in the UK and it is the other way around - the UK dollar has weakened against what seems like most major currencies. I really hope things pick up soon!

It will all be worth it when its mid-winter in Australia and your still in a t-shirt!
